My Siding is Stained and My Father in Law Says It’s My Gutters?

April 30, 2024 by collegetown

“I love my father-in-law,” Charles said. “He’s the best. He can see one little problem and immediately figure out what’s causing it. Case in point – there’s a few admittedly ugly stains developing on our siding. He says it’s because our gutters need replacing. They are original to the house when we bought it eight years ago, and I guess they are sagging in a few places.” The Raynham homeowner wants to know, “Is the old man right? Do I need new gutters?”

3 Signs It’s Time for New Gutters

It can certainly be a blessing to have a father-in-law or other relative know what’s causing every issue with your home. Of course you’re never going to double-check what they say! But as Raynham home improvement contractors, we’re going to share these 3 signs it’s time for new gutter with everybody else:

New Gutters Needed Sign #1: Gaps, Cracks and Breaks

For your gutters to work effectively, they need to be able to carry the water that’s come off of your roof away from your home. Any damage that impedes the gutter’s ability to do that -such as gaps, cracks and breaks that allow the water to exit the gutters prematurely – is a sign it’s time for new gutters.

New Gutters Needed Sign #2: Mold, Mildew, and Strange Green Slime

When your gutters stop working properly, they no longer empty completely of water. This is wonderful condition for mold and mildew growth. Not such great news for the homeowner. Mold and mildew can trigger many common allergies, so you definitely don’t want it in your house. Additionally, mold and mildew growth can even damage your house. If you’re having mold issues in the home, check to see if the gutters need to be replaced.

New Gutters Needed Sign #3: The Dreaded Sagging Gutter

Let’s hear it for Charles’ father-in-law! Sagging gutters are indeed one of the most common signs of impending gutter failure. Gutters sag because they get filled up with stuff – leaves, tree branches, ice – and stuff is heavy. Gutters aren’t made to support a lot of weight over an extended period of time. Once sags start, gaps, cracks and other damage is the inevitable next step. Stay ahead of the issue and have your Raynham gutter installation company put new gutters on this spring.
