“This house has been in my family for three generations,” Megan said. “I love it, but it does seriously need some work done. Structurally the place is in good shape, but you can really, really tell it was built over one hundred years ago.”
As part of her ongoing renovation project, Megan coordinated with a replacement glass service in Abington, MA. “I had a number of goals. The first one was making the house look better. We’ve got this whole shabby chic thing going on, and I want it more of a traditional home look. Second goal, energy efficiency. It costs a fortune to heat this place.”
The first step of Megan’s journey involved having replacement windows installed. “This doesn’t sound complicated, and because I worked with a great Abington MA glass service, it wasn’t,” Megan said. “Except for the fact that in the family room, there was a large bow window. It was pretty, I guess, but as long as I could remember, it always leaked and fogged up. So I decided to find out what was involved in having a large picture window installed.”
Once the picture window was installed in the family room, “I fell in love with it,” Megan said. “To the point where one just wasn’t enough. Maybe it’s a little extravagant but I also wanted a picture window in my office. I work from home and I wanted to be able to enjoy an unobstructed view.”
Megan also had her replacement glass service participate in the bathroom renovations. “The old shower unit had to go, and when I had the new one put in, I wanted glass doors all the way around in a much more modern style than we had previously,” Megan explained. “I already knew the glass company had all the expertise to do the job right, so I had them handle that job as well. They also created and installed the long custom mirror that’s over the vanity. I have two teenage girls,” she laughed. “Having a great bathroom mirror was a smart investment.”
