“While our house isn’t officially historic, we know it’s one of the oldest properties in the area,” Donald said. “We’re being very mindful of that legacy as we make changes and fix up the place.”
One of the challenges Donald and his partner Janice have with their older Massachusetts home is that there are several windows in need of repair. “Many of these windows are original to the house. None of them are standard sizes, and many of them have cracks in one or more panes.”
The issue of installing replacement windows in historic homes is contentious. “While there’s no doubt it would make the house more energy efficient, I’m not sure that’s the right decision for the house right now,” Donald said. “As long as we have the option of maintaining what’s original, I’d like to do that.”
For that reason, the couple opted for window glass replacement to address the many damaged windows. “We’re working with a budget, and I have limited time,” Donald said, “so I appreciate how the company that does glass window replacement near me has supported us through this project.” Technicians came to Donald and Janice’s house to precisely measure the glass that would be needed, and then proceeded with the repairs as the budget allowed. “Because each repair was relatively small – one window needed only a single pane replaced, while another needed five! – we were able to keep the costs under control while keeping the project on schedule.”
With the goal of having all the windows repaired before winter’s cold temperatures arrive, the couple is feeling good about the progress. “Obviously, it’s warmer and more comfortable in those rooms. And for the rooms facing the street – the boost to the appearance may be subtle, but I feel like it’s well worth the money.”
