Three Signs It’s Time for Replacement Windows

December 29, 2022 by collegetown

It’s time to start planning your 2023 home upgrades. Consider if you would benefit from having replacement windows installed. Replacement windows are highly energy efficient, and can make your home more attractive inside and out. But are your current windows good candidates for replacement?

Here are three signs it’s time for replacement windows:

#1: Your Energy & Heating Bills Are Causing You Stress

Home heating costs are going up, up, up. Obviously this causes stress and pressure on the budget. You want to run the heat as little as possible, but you also need your family to be reasonably warm and comfortable. Replacement windows are installed because they do a good job keeping the warm air from your heating system in the house. They also do a superior job repelling the cold air from outside. This will mean your heating system uses less energy and fuel, which helps keep your bills down.

#2: Your Windows Are Damaged, Have Leaky Sills, Cracks, Chips, or Seal Issues

Everything in this world wears out. Over the course of time, windows develop issues that compromise their performance. Sometimes window damage is very obvious, such as where a bird flies into the window and cracks the glass. Other times this damage is difficult to see, such as cracks and gaps in the seals that surround the window glass. However those cracks and gaps are what allow cold, drafty air to get in and expensive warm air to get out.

#3: Your Home is Uncomfortable, Unsightly, or In Some Other Way Not Pleasing to You

Window performance can affect how comfortable your home is. Poorly performing windows let in drafts, don’t open or close properly, and condense or freeze over. Some windows, especially those classic aluminum replacement windows from the early seventies, just aren’t looking their best anymore. This detracts from the overall appearance of your home. And of course, you may have your own personal reasons why the windows need replacing: your sense of style might not mesh with what the home builders chose for windows.
